7 Ways to Help Your Child Prepare For An Exam

Kids may feel nervous days before taking an exam. Help them overcome their fear by making sure they’re prepared to tick the answers on their test papers. Here are seven ways to help your kids ace their test:

1. Familiarize yourself with the exam procedure.

It will be so much easier for you to help them review if you’re familiar with the exam procedure. You can check with their school teacher or read through your child’s notes. Essential information you can obtain are the schedule, the materials they will need, and the format of the exam.

2. Prepare a practice exam.

Look for practice exams you can use to refresh your child’s memory of questions that might be asked during their test. Standardized practice exams are mostly available online. You can also create your own by checking your child’s notes and textbooks.

3. Create study aids.

Study aids can help your child remember information well. For example, flash cards work well for vocabulary, spelling, or images. Prepare a table of math formula too to help them memorise important formulas.

4. Study with them.

Aside from being a good bonding opportunity, being there for your child while they’re studying will make them feel more confident and will make them stick to the goal. Schedule consistent study times weeks before their exam and stick to it.

5. Give them a conducive place for studying.

6. Give them a break.

Don’t burn your child out by making them study the whole time. Give them a short break to eat snacks or rest a bit. Let them pursue their regular activities and hobbies so they won’t be overwhelmed. Just ensure that they are present on their scheduled study time.

7. Prepare them physically and mentally.

Encourage your child to go to bed early the night before the exam. On the day itself, prepare good breakfast packed with carbs and proteins which will give your child enough energy for the day. Double-check their supplies such as pen, paper, calculator, and ruler among others. And lastly, make sure they arrive on time.
