Changing the look of your living room should not cost you much. "Just by adding a few small, but creative and decorative details, you can make any home look like a million dollars. As long as you approach your decorating on a budget creatively, it should not only save you money, but will be fun also," says Patricia Griecci in How to Decorate Your Home on a Budget.

Here are budget-friendly ways to jazz up your living room:

1. Give one wall a fresh coat of paint. "Paint one wall using your favorite color, and make this the focal point of the room," says Griecci. You can place a statement furniture on that side of the room or hang an interesting artwork.

2. Rearrange the furniture. Sometimes, a little rearranging can do the trick. A fresh layout will also help you identify decors or furnishings lacking in your living room.

3. Change cushions. A great way to showcase your personality in the living room is to throw in quirky and cute cushions. New ones can instantly refresh the look of this space.

4. Park an area rug. Find one that complements the theme of your living room. Griecci suggests positioning it underneath the coffee table or in a central seating location.

5. Decorate with photos. What better way to personalise this space than to display family photos? Be a little creative: get identical frames for a more uniformed look or try more ornate frames in different sizes.

6. Hang a mirror. "When hanging a mirror, place it in a position where it will reflect either a nice view, or an interesting architectural element of the room," explains Griecci. Plus, mirrors can create an illusion that your space looks larger.

7. Get a new lamp. If you are still using your trusty old lamp, then it's high time to replace it. Whether you DIY or purchase a lamp from the home decor shop, find one that fits perfectly in your living room's look.

8. Style up the coffee table. Add extra flair to this space by creating a beautiful vignette in your coffee table using books, candles, and flowers.
