White has and always will be a great colour choice for home and interiors. It’s a “neutral” that pairs well with any other hue, makes for a great backdrop for furniture, and has positive emotional benefits on beholders too.

Below are some beautiful uses of this versatile colour in different interior styles, showing how white truly is might.

Traditional-meets-contemporary style:

When white is applied in various textures (an upholstered headboard with nailhead trim, faux fur linen, patterned throw pillows, and lacquer bedside table), the monochromatic look takes on an ultra-chic air and sophistication.

Here, traditional moulding, cabinet doors, and light fixtures look stately and elegant, but are given a more modern feel with marble countertops and subway-tile backsplash.

In this take on the transitional kitchen, traditional cabinetry is paired with contemporary Lucite-and-chrome bar stools, as well as silver-and-glass pendant lights.

Contemporary style:

This romantic bedroom is everything we love about cottage style—breezy, restful, and laidback—with its French doors that open on to a foresty deck, a tree branch for a curtain rod, gauzy tie-up curtains, and soft white linen.

Glam-chic style:

A desktop with mostly white accessories and office supplies creates a pristine workspace, but mixed with gold and pink elements, truly make it a elegantly feminine home office.

Coastal style:

A beach cottage employs elements taken from the lovely outdoors, like wood, straw, and white stone.

Tropical style:

This kitchen would have been completely contemporary, were it not for the addition of wicker bubble lamps and driftwood-top bar stools.

Rustic style:

A rustic living and dining room such as this one contains French-provincial elements like drop-cloth shades, braided reed rug, and canvas slip-covered chairs.

Gauzy curtains over the four-post bed lends the romantic touch to this rustic bedroom with weathered floor boards, an old peacock chair, and a wooden lattice screen repurposed as a headboard.

A modern dining nook gets a shot of rustic style with the macramé rug and cane chairs.

Scandinavian style:

A typical element in Scandinavian-style homes, blonde or beech wood (seen here in the wooden ceiling beams and the chair and table) go absolutely well with white spaces and furniture.

Not only does white reinforce Scandinavian style’s simple and pared-back aesthetic, but it also helps keep rooms sport a bright and airy look, just like this Dutch bedroom.

Mediterranean style:

While Mediterranean style spans from the starkly rustic to the opulently formal, white Mediterranean spaces often begin with white-washed walls typical of Greek, Italian and French homes on the coast. Here, a powder room has white-washed walls with rounded corners, a stone basin, and vintage faucets. Shelves and nooks for mirrors are built into the stone, while wooden beams and naturally coloured floor tiles add warmth to the space.
