How To Create A Stylish Reading Nook

Only bibliophiles will understand how important a cosy, whimsical, and comfortable reading nook is. Whether you enjoy flipping the pages of your favourite magazine or delving into a thrilling novel, your reading nook should be perfectly designed for you.

You don’t need a big space to have that perfect reading nook you’re dreaming of. As long as you have all the essentials, you can already get lost in your books and travel to far places at the comfort of your home. Here are ways how to turn an awkward corner into a stylish reading nook:

1. Choose the right spot.

A reading nook is one of the nice-to-haves in every home. However, you can utilise the unused corners in your bedroom, living room, or even the extra space in your hallway to create a quiet and cosy nook. Just make sure that you’re not cramped in a space with lots of distractions because it’ll be too difficult for you to focus on your book.

2. Use relaxing colours.

In creating a space dedicated to reading, think of calming colours such as blue, green, grey, and even soft pastels. Surrounding yourself with these soothing colours will help you calm your mind and reduce your stress from the outside world.

3. Personalise your space.

Add pillows, ottomans, and curtains for privacy and you already have a perfect place to get lost in books.

4. Light up!

A good reading lamp or a sconce will create a cosy look in your space. However, do not just stick to one light source. Try having different levels of light by using a mix of table, floor, and small reading lamps so that you can adjust the lighting depending on the time of day and your needs.

5. Pick the right chair.

Get carried away into distant lands and faraway kingdoms by comfortably sitting on your throne. Pick the right kind of chair that will make you feel comfy and relaxed. Dreamy pieces such as velvety-soft accent chairs and ottomans make it effortless to experience total comfort in your reading corner.

6. Unplug!

Make sure that your reading nook is free from electronic devices such as televisions and computers. Ditching electronics will help you focus more on reading.

7. Allocate enough space for a table.

A small table will allow you to keep a cup of coffee nearby. You can also use it to create an interesting vignette that will add style to your reading nook. Regardless of how you want to use it, you must allocate space for a table that can keep every object in your reading corner.

8. Use clever storage units.

Don’t forget to cleverly store and organise your books and other reading materials. This will keep your space clutter- and stress-free because you won’t have to deal with too much mess as you enter your special hiding place at home.
