You’ve found your sofa, but not a worthy companion. Ottomans and chairs feel too rigid; you want something that’s comfortable and portable, yet blends in well with the elegant velvet sofa (well, it did cost a month’s salary!). Thanks to SoftRock Living, bean bags can fulfill that missing piece of furniture that’s just the right balance of laidback indulgence.

Usually known for their neon colours and lightweight portability, these bean-filled forms have been a popular choice not just among homeowners but also cafes and offices. Yet they remain as fun, versatile lounging furniture pieces―not exactly the best sidekick to more ornate furnishing styles―until this new deluxe range.

Made to fill the gap of casual sophistication, SoftRock Living’s beanbags target the more discerning and adventurous in home and design, and aim to change the current perception of beanbags. “We realised that the beanbags in the market are generally quite uniformly targeted towards the more fun-loving kind of audience,” director Jay Cheng says. “What we’re hoping for is to make people look differently at alternative and complementary furniture.”

Repositioning beanbags meant more than just using better quality materials and changing the colour palette. SoftRock Living also came up with different shapes and makes to suit various lounging preferences. For example, the Vesuvius can be shaped into at least five different positions whether seated or lounging, fitted to any individual’s body and preference.

Film-lovers would be delighted to know the comfort of these bean bags is brought quite literally before the screens at The Projector’s REDRUM. Yes, instead of stuffy theatre chairs, you get beanbags to lounge on with a good film! Wine and good company not included, but certainly recommended.

The Dionysus follows a similar focus on comfort while taking the luxe factor up a notch with its synthetic shaggy fur cover. More than just providing a perfect face-planting excuse after a long work day, the design, reminiscent of a winter husky’s coat, brings another layer of textures to spice up monochromatic palettes.

Luxury also comes in a less furry form. Engineered to follow the natural contours of the reclining body, the Bohemian would be a better choice for those who prefer a more structured comfort. Lighter neutral colours and fine materials conjure elements of Italian and Scandinavian design for a distinctly differentiated atmosphere.

Despite being built for a level of extravagance, most of these bean bags remain low maintenance with removable covers that can be machine-washed―another tick towards versatility. And versatile they certainly are; whether a lounging sofa, table, cushion, communal seating, or napping nook―it is all up to you.
