We already know that eclectic style is a mix of different elements, different schools of design, different style philosophies, and a plethora of textures, colours, prints, and patterns.

But what exactly is “luxurious eclectic”? This isn’t really what this style is called. In fact, others may use a variety of terms for it: classical glamour, whimsical elegance, fashionable traditional, eclectic allure….

This kind of interiors style can go by many names, but what they all have in common is this: Layers upon layers of design elements that make it such a richly decadent, lavish, almost self-indulgent look, but nevertheless breathtakingly beautiful.

It’s all about combining elements that are unexpected, and taking inspiration from high fashion, travel, and all other kinds of luxurious pursuits, and translating them into décor. Below are some photos of this kind of plush and opulent style.

A living room is decked with not just one, not two, but three sitting areas that put together a variety of chairs in different textures: the translucent polycarbonate of Louis Ghost chairs, tufted leather, and upholstered lounge seats. A zebra-print ottoman serves as the unexpected twist in this modern classical interior.

A dining hall mixes up a club feel with an almost Palm Beach aesthetic: a purple wallpaper with tropical palms set the tone, with leather chairs, stools, and benches capitalising on its palette of moss green and orchid.

Pink walls and classical trim and moulding hardly seem compatible, but in this case, are pulled together by the huge Chinese painting of the majestic peacock, and a fusion of contemporary elements like the bracket-like coffee table, a magenta couch, gold accents, and of course, those Lucite side tables and bed posts.

Vintage artwork gathered in front of a fireplace is a nod to a traditional past, but updated with stripes and florals via the couch and armchair.

An explosion of prints emanate from this eclectic bedroom, but all tied together by a similar colour palette.

This kind of style is also defined by show-stopping wall treatments and fabrics, as well as unusual furniture arrangements. This work desk and armchair is actually a vanity in a well-appointed bathroom suite.

A traditional grand staircase receives a contemporary upgrade with a glass balustrade punctuated with black balusters, a striped stair runner, and instead of a customary console on the first landing, an abundance of pillows arranged on a bay seat in front of a generously proportioned window.

A vaulted ceiling is a throwback to gothic architecture, but made more glamourous with gilded chandeliers, a marble tub, and unexpectedly, Chevron-print flooring.

Patterns on the floor and the ceiling and exotic inlaid chairs make an unlikely combo with seat-covered armchairs and Chevron curtains.

Grey and black are energised by a bright pop of yellow, and layered with classic-contemporary elements like gilded mirrors and leather armchairs, a richly patterned ottoman, and Roman-style stools.
