5 Things You Should Know This Week: 13 March 2018

These are some of the news you should know this week:

1. GROHE opens first flagship store in Asia

GROHE, the world’s leading brand in sanitary fittings, recently opened its first fully-owned and operated flagship store in Asia. Located in the heart of Singapore’s main shopping belt, GROHE SPA aims to raise the bar in delighting and inspiring designers and consumers with a showcase of GROHE’s most innovative water technologies. Covering over 6,000 square feet on two levels, visitors are invited to learn about the design inspiration behind GROHE’s award-winning collections and experience “Pure Freude an Wasser” (Pure Joy of Water).

Enhancing the brick-and-mortar experience, the store is equipped with smart technologies that help consumers and designers visualise and plan their selections. Tapping on virtual reality (VR) technology, GROHE SPA has a built-in Shower Configurator where consumers can customise their preferred shower system and experience how it comes together in function and design before making a purchase. Putting on a VR headset, consumers see their selections brought to life via projections to experience their shortlisted choices, all without actually getting wet. The store has also implemented the use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to enable immediate access via a mobile device. Visitors can learn more about each product displayed and get detailed specifications as they walk through the store, tagging products and emailing the desired information to themselves immediately.

The store is located at Level 1 #01-04/05, Shaw Centre, 1 Scotts Road. Visit www.grohe.sg or join GROHE’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/GrohePacific/ to keep updated of events and happenings at the new flagship store.

2. Singapore interior designers win big at 2nd Singapore Interior Design Awards

Singapore interior designers swept 33 awards—including 3 golds and the SIDA Concept Award—at the Singapore Interior Design Awards (SIDA) 2017 Gala Night & Awards Presentation. The trophy haul by Singapore interior designers accounted for 22% of all SIDA 2017 awards presented. The event, held at the Pan Pacific Hotel today, was graced by Senior Minister of State for Law and Finance, Ms Indranee Thurai Rajah. SIDA is an annual interior design award organised by the Society of Interior Designers, Singapore (SIDS) to recognise and honour design excellence in the global interior design industry.

Amid stiff competition, Singapore-based spatial design studio, UPSTAIRS_, helmed by Dennis Cheok, clinched SIDA 2017 gold in the Residential–Landed category for Ply House, a privately-owned house in Singapore. Local commercial interior design firm, Orb Associates Pte Ltd ("Orb Associates") also bagged two golds in the SIDA Concept competition—one in the Food and Beverage (F&B) category for a rooftop bar entitled “MBC BUFFET LOUNGE AND ROOF”, and the other in the Public Institutions category for “Medical Suites”.

4. Bang & Olufsen unveils BeoVision Eclipse Wood Edition

Bang & Olufsen unveiled BeoVision Eclipse Wood Edition, the latest variant of the world’s best sounding TV. BeoVision Eclipse Wood Edition is designed by award-winning Torsten Valeur, David Lewis Designers, and comes with a handmade speaker cover in oak to add elegance, warmth and high-end craftsmanship to any interior. The new design delivers proof of how beautifully warm oak complements the expression of the razor-thin display and the sleek aluminium elements, while at the same time honouring the long-standing Bang & Olufsen tradition of using wood in the product design, says Senior Concept Lead from Bang & Olufsen Kresten Bjørn Krab-Bjerre.

BeoVision Eclipse combines Bang & Olufsen’s design, craftsmanship and acoustic capabilities with LG Electronics’ technological leadership on OLED TV technology including their webOS and 4K video processing capabilities. The TV’s integrated, 450-watt 3-channel SoundCentre offers stereo performance and centre channel control, surpassing most integrated solutions and soundbars on the market. With built-in internet radio and music streaming services, BeoVision Eclipse becomes a music system in its own right. The motorized floor stand sets BeoVision Eclipse further apart. With the push of a button, the TV moves soundlessly across the floor as if it was floating towards you. No matter where you are seated, the TV can always be adjusted to your position, modifying not only the viewing experience, but the entire decoration of the room. In addition to the motorised floor stand, BeoVision Eclipse can be wall mounted with a motorised or manual bracket.
