5 Things You Should Know This Week: 6 March 2018

These are some of the news you should know this week:

1. diptyque opens first boutique in Singapore

diptyque, legendary French perfumer and maker of luxury scented candles, home fragrances, and body care collection, has opened its first boutique in Singapore, setting up shop alongside the best international brands in the heart of Ngee Ann City. Green—the symbol of nature from which the brand draws inspiration for its creations—and the soft golden tones of brass lend structure to the space, giving it a warm and intimate mood. A garden, an alcove evoking a gazebo, velvet armchairs—this carefully constructed setting has the ambiance of a winter garden. Upon stepping into the 423-square-feet boutique, visitors are first struck by the very particular vision of nature conveyed by the furnishings.

Tempo and Fleur de Peau, the latest works of art by diptyque, are not only new and completely modern, they’re also reverent nods to their big sister, L’Eau, to her historic birth year, 1968. With Tempo, diptyque revisits the patchouli theme, but (of course) refining it to reveal its most exquisite beauty. Combining three different extractions, each from a sustainable supply chain managed by Givaudan on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi. Fleur de Peau explores the smell of skin: the smell of musk. By opting to include a hint of iris, matte, and cool, long lasting and deep, like yesteryear’s glove makers used to perfume their leather.

2. The Great Singapore Sale is at IKEA

The Great Singapore Sale might only be in June, but you won’t have to wait that long for Swede deals at IKEA. From March 1 to 11, IKEA will be offering up on sale some of your favourite home furnishing products—ranging from bowls to rugs and bed frames. With great savings storewide, there’s bound to be something for everyone. Deals are only while stocks last, and available on the listed dates. Purchases will be limited at two pieces of furniture items and five pieces of Markethall items per customer, so think hard but not for too long!

3. Victoria + Albert launches new online colour simulator

Shaping up to dominate the interior design industry in 2018, colour is now more important in bathroom design than ever before. Homeowners and designers alike are looking to add statement designs in this privy space to elevate the bathroom from a plain white "box" to a space full of life and personality. Victoria + Albert's newly-launched online colour simulator tool allows you to instantly visualise any of Victoria + Albert's bathtubs and basins in your desired finish to help complete the vision of your perfect bathroom.

Be it brightening up the space or giving your bathroom a bold personality, explore the wheel of finishes that the simulator offers such as Gloss Black, Matt Black, Stone Grey, Light Grey, Matt White, Anthracite, and Victoria + Albert's standard QUARRYCAST® finish. Opt to coordinate the finishes with other elements in the bathroom, such as vanity furniture, accessories and soft furnishings for a designer look. Using a specialist catalysed paint, Victoria + Albert's colour finishes are hand polished between applications. This sophisticated technique results in an exceptional depth and lustrous finish that can be seen from the brilliance and shine of the paint surface. Additionally, this technique is considerably more durable than hand painted surfaces, thus making it a worthwhile addition to your existing bathroom. Discover the colour simulator at www.vandabaths.com and take a step closer to envisioning your dream bathroom.

5. Dyson's Hair Science event at ION Art

The event saw for the first time Dyson’s hair science research rigs being showcased. These rigs are part of the journey that Dyson engineers took to understand the science of hair—their structure, biology, and the effects that temperature has on hair strength, porosity, and shine.

To truly understand the science of hair, Dyson created hair science laboratories. Over four years, 103 Dyson engineers including scientists and stylists looked at everything from airflow dynamics to hair’s cellular structure, testing nearly 1,625 kilometres of hair in the process. The team examined healthy and damaged hair using electron microscopes and light chambers to understand how light reflects from the hair. The research showed that with extreme heat the structures within the hair become damaged and this results in hair that is weaker and less shiny, the light scattering off the hair rather than reflecting evenly.

To efficiently dry and style hair without leading to frizz and flyaways, Dyson engineers focused their attention on developing attachments that produce controlled airflow. The Dyson Supersonic™ hair dryer has three different nozzles to provide controlled air flow: Dyson Styling Nozzle, Dyson Smoothing Nozzle, and Dyson Diffuser Nozzle.
