How to Keep Your Home Smelling Fresh Even If You Have Pets

You love your pets that you treat them like your family and you even let them sleep on your bed. From their natural odour to their litter boxes, their smell can be unattractive to your visitors. No matter how much you’ve worked on your home’s interior design, if it stinks with your pet’s odour, your guests will surely remember this unpleasant impression.

Don’t let this nightmare happen by following some of these useful tips to keep your home smelling fresh while minimising pet odour:

1. Keep everything clean—your home, your pets, even their things.

Clean your home on a regular basis if you want to keep it smelling fresh. Do not forget to vacuum, dust, mop, wash, and replace fabrics so that it won’t smell like your pets. Also, just as how you like your home cleaned, it is important to clean and groom your pet regularly as well as their stuff. From baths to brushing, keeping your furballs clean is the secret to a pleasant-smelling home.

2. Clean their mess as soon as possible.

Chances are, your pets cannot fight the urge to poop or pee anywhere aside from their litter boxes. When such things happen, clean it up right away. If you leave it there for quite some time, it will spread, stain, and smell. Of course, you don’t want that to happen, right? Use products that will break down organic waste and neutralise odours. Don’t use cleaners with ammonia because they smell just like urine to dogs.

3. Baking soda is your holy grail.

Deodorising your space can be done miraculously by using baking soda. Sprinkle it on your rug and let it sit for a couple of hours and vacuum it after. You’ll instantly notice that the room smells much better. You can also use it as a cheap air freshener by mixing it with water and drops of essential oils or vanilla extract in a spray bottle.

4. Fabric softener is a go-to pal.

A simple way to keep your space from smelling like a kennel is to put a fabric softener sheet in an envelope under the sofa or chair cushion where your furry friend likes to hang out.

5. Let the air flow in your home.

Open your windows once in a while for 10 minutes to let the air flow in your home. This will make a huge difference in the quality of air in your space.

6. Have a clean-up kit.

Keep the following must-haves in your cleaning closet: spray stain removers, old towels, paper towels, and disposable disinfectant wipes. These will be your clean-up arsenal if accidents happen inside your home. Keep them as accessible as possible so that you can get them quickly.

7. Cover up the smell with pet-friendly air neutralisers.

If you really can’t get rid of the smell, cover it up with air neutralisers and masking scents that are safe for your pets.
