Home Decorating Tips For Hari Raya Puasa

Marking the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan is the festival of Eid, most commonly known as Hari Raya Aidilfitri or Hari Raya Puasa in Singapore. Hari Raya Puasa, or Raya, is a celebration of new beginnings and victory, as well as a time of forgiveness and strengthening of bonds amongst family members and relatives. Just in time before the festivities, Muslim families do some spring cleaning to prepare their homes for the feasts and visitations.

If you are thinking on how to spruce up your home before the Raya comes, here are interesting ways to do it without embarking on major renovations:

1. Fill an empty space with art.

From installing framed Islamic calligraphy to batik decors, fill an empty space in your home with art and pay homage to your heritage. Make sure that these wall hangings won’t damage your wall and can be easily removed if ever you decide to change the overall look of your home.

2. Add a bunch of fresh flowers.

New beginnings is what Raya brings to homes and families. Create a natural and refreshing setting in your abode by putting flowers in the living room. Make your guests feel more comfortable and welcomed with this simple yet decorative piece that will add life and warmth to your residence.

3. DIY some Eid Mubarak paper lanterns.

Bring in the Raya cheer to your home by creating your own Eid Mubarak paper lanterns. Have the kids help you in folding, sticking, and crafting these fun and easy paper lanterns that you can hang at home.

4. Sprinkle with moon- and star-themed decor.

The moon and stars are the most common decorative elements in the Muslim culture. Give your home extra sparkle and shine by incorporating some of these shapes into your decor. Uplift the festive mood by choosing common colours such as gold, silver, and anything that shimmers.

5. Add a splash of green.

Green is a popular colour when celebrating Raya. You can paint your kitchen cabinets with this colour or you can also add nature's elements such as plants to your living space.

6. Go for matching.

Create a harmonious vibe at home by using one dominant colour for your furnishing and room accent. Either you go for matching curtains and cushion covers, or the sofa colour and room accent combo, your choices are endless! Do not overdo it by using a single block of colour everywhere.

7. Jazz up your trays.

As you serve your guests some yummy treats during the Raya, prep the trays you’re going to use prior to the festivities. Jazz it up with some washi tapes or paint to make it more colourful and festive-looking.

8. Add a festive carpet.

Bring your guests to a whole new world with a festive carpet fixed on your floors before the celebration.

9. Impress your relatives with fancy furnishing.

Host your loved ones in style without breaking the bank. What about getting the Camden 3+2 Seater Fabric Sofa & 6pc Dining Set, $1,599 ($4,198), COURTS, that incorporates wood elements for a classic, timeless design that extends flawlessly throughout your living and dining space?
