This list only shows that no matter the interior design theme, it's the story of the home and its owners that inspires readers the most—how they were able to create a home that's uniquely theirs. Here are some of the most beautiful homes we visited in 2016:

1. Alvin and Winnie's Hello Kitty-Filled Home
This HDB flat in Hougang is literally beaming with character as the wife's favourite cat, Hello Kitty, is found everywhere! One room was even converted into a "museum-slash-storage room" for her overwhelming collection of Hello Kitty.

2. Ben and Winnie's Santorini-Inspired Home
The couple fell in love with Santorini during their honeymoon that they decided their Yishun HDB flat should look like this postcard-perfect location.

3. Timothy and Yvonne's Spacious Minimalist Scandinavian Home
Although husband and wife wanted different interior styles, they eventually agreed on the clean Scandinavian look for their HDB home in Dover Crescent.

4. Loon and Mel's Minimalist and Muji-Filled Home
Simple and minimalist aesthetics make this Muji-filled flat in Punggol shine.

5. Toh Chen and Ying Tian's Personality-Filled Scandinavian Home
This Sengkang flat is a treasure trove of an impressive collection of The Lord of the Rings swords (his), shoes (hers), and sports accessories (his and hers).

6. Danny and Valene's Bright and Colourful HDB Home
Colourful furnishings and cute home decors populate this happy and bright HDB flat in Yishun.

7. Adam and Thea's New York Loft-Inspired HDB Flat
Who would have thought industrial, country, and NY warehouse styles could beautifully blend in one home? Well, you have to see this Punggol BTO flat!

8. YC and Ling's Japanese-Inspired Minimalist Home
The couple living in this Choa Chu Kang flat pared down their home furnishings to just the essentials. But the Muji-inspired Japanese minimalist home is still stunning in its simplicity.

9. Izzat and Raudhah's Laidback and Inviting Scandinavian Home
This Tampines HD flat embraces the Scandinavian style—stark white walls, neutral colour palette, light wood tones, functional furniture—and the result is a bright and airy space for them and their cat.

10. Kok Weng and Jacelyn's Dreamy DIY European-Style Home
A romantic-looking home that evokes memories of their European trips is what this couple wanted for their Tampines flat, which sports modern Parisian look with some Victorian twist.

11. Jerome and Sarah's Charming Home with Industrial-Style Mezzanine
This three-storey landed property in Sengkang is made even more gorgeous by mixing different styles: tropical resort, industrial, and rustic country.

12. Bon and Biwa's Vibrant Retro Eclectic Flat
This couple lives in a home dedicated to expressing their personalities and honouring what they love about life. Quirky, unique furnishings are found everywhere in this Tampines home.

13. Liangfa and Shuying's Stylish Scandi-Eclectic Home
The queen of the house made good use of her kick-ass creative and craft skills to turn their 110-square-metre Bukit Panjang flat into a page from an interior designer's portfolio.

14. Danny and Joyce's Scandinavian Cat Cafe-Themed Home
This cat-friendly home is a sanctuary for a couple and their five charming cats.

15. Bamm and Christina's Balinese-Style HDB Home
Choosing Balinese theme for their home is almost a no-brainer for this couple who wanted to achieve a serene and relaxing abode.

16. Mite and Carol's Eclectic Travel-Inspired Flat

This couple doesn't have to leave home to experience what it feels like to be in picture-perfect places, because they have decided to showcase dream destinations in their Punggol HDB flat.
