House Tour: Paul and Caitlin's Tropical Glam Condo Home

There's endless summer vibe all year round in Paul and Caitlin's 120-square-metre condo home. The couple, who met and fell in love in London, wanted their home to exude tropical glam—something that showcases the essence of tropical island living, complemented by elements of the midcentury modern aesthetic.

Having lived in London and New York, and now based in Singapore, Paul and Caitlin chose the vibrant Tiong Bahru neighbourhood because of its "fantastic wet market, restaurants, and coffee shops."

When they moved to this condo home about 10 months ago, it was a blank slate. Paul shared there were no curtains and the lighting was terrible—but it featured a great layout, so they were excited to create a home out of this space. "Being new to Singapore, we didn’t even know where to begin when it came to sourcing new furniture and lighting for our apartment. We knew we’d be traveling a lot and wanted the place done quickly so we could enjoy our weekends exploring Singapore, not furniture shopping. A friend had worked with Rashi from Home Philosophy Pte Ltd and loved the process of working with her and the final results. Rashi totally got what we were looking for right away and made us feel comfortable with the entire process. Importantly she said she would be able to achieve the look we were going for within our budget," shared Caitlin.

Check out this condo home that will make you want to put tropical touches to your own home:

Living Room

To maximise the outdoorsy tropical ambience, this home features an open concept where the living room, dining area, and balcony beautifully blend. In the living room, immaculate white walls, soft neutral colours, lovely metallic accents found in the chandelier and the brass handles of the TV console, teak accent chairs, and greenery bring the "staycation" to a whole new level.

Dining Room

The dining area is bright and airy, thanks to the sheer window treatment that provides lots of natural light to the room. The marble dining table is the star of the space, and the wooden chairs help make this eating space cosy but glam.

Master Bedroom

Paul and Caitlin said, "The master bedroom was accented with retro blue lamps and a bold red Chinese dresser. This helped declutter the space and add some visual splendour to the room."

Offering a stunning view of the city, the balcony is one of the most precious spots in Paul and Caitlin's home. It's both comfortable and stylish, thanks to the modern lounge set, teak wood centre table, and lovely rug that fill up the space.

What do they love most about their home? "It just feels us. It meets our modern, minimalist style, but feels comfortable and homey at the same time," said Paul. "We also love filling the apartment with plants and flowers from the Tiong Bahru market. It makes the space feel happy and alive."

Tips for other homeowners

  • A designer is nowhere near as expensive as you probably think one is! Working with a designer is totally worth it for the time and money you’ll save.
  • Ask your designer to suggest a few things outside of your comfort zone. We ended up loving a few of the pieces we never thought we would.
  • Bamboo adds lush green to any space and is hard to kill.
