1. Samsung Electronics introduces Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+. The company invites users to discover new possibilities with the launch of two smartphones that feature a stunning Infinity Display for immersive viewing experiences and a variety of new service offerings among many others. “The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ usher in a new era of smartphone design and fantastic new services, opening up new ways to experience the world. 2. The James Dyson Award 2017 is now open for entries. Design something that solves a problem and you might take home the prize of £30,000 to develop your project. The annual design award, run by the James Dyson Foundation, operates in 23 countries. The 2016 national winner for the James Dyson Award competition in Singapore was Loren Lim who invented Oneware, a kitchen tool that simplifies household chores to be more effortless for the physically challenged. The International Winner was Isis Shiffer, who invented EcoHelmet, a foldable bike helmet which uses a unique honeycomb paper configuration to protect the head from impact, folds flat when not in use, and is made from 100% recyclable materials. 4. IKEA’s ART EVENT 2017 collection. The limited edition ART EVENT 2017 collection features artwork from 12 up-and-coming artists in contemporary drawing, continuing IKEA’s ambitions to democratise art and make it accessible for the masses. “We have a very strong and simple vision about art at IKEA, and it’s that art should be affordable—it should be accessible for the many people—and also that art belongs in the home, not just in galleries or museums,” says Henrik Most, creative leader for ART EVENT 2017.
