Highlights of the Week: 4 June 2019

These are some of the news you should know this week:

1. Take a step closer to a smarter home with Ambi Climate

Ambi Labs, the makers of smart AI-enabled air-conditioner (AC) control Ambi Climate, has recently launched its latest enhancement, the Google Home integration. This enables Singaporeans to be a step closer to having a smart home.

With its newest feature, Ambi Climate aims to simplify air conditioning control and improve users’ comfort and lifestyle. This new addition also puts voice control stage, streamlining AC usage for the whole family with Custom Action and Multi-user Control capabilities, and is available on all Google devices. All you need to do is use simple voice commands to effortlessly improve and manage conditions at home, making the connected, automated Smart Home a reality. Alongside its existing integrations with Amazon Alexa and IFTTT—a comfort-centric AI engine and compatibility with over 1,200 air conditioner LCD-screen remotes—this is another step towards giving consumers an easy and accessible path to attain the latest in smart functionality. Besides its industrial design blending well with modern decor, in the constant summer of Singapore, this product can save up to 30% on your electricity bills.

Because of its innovative ways, Ambi Climate has been chosen as a CES 2019 Innovation Awards Honoree in the Smart Home category. The CES Innovation Awards is an annual competition honouring outstanding design and engineering in consumer technology products. A panel of judges, including designers, engineers and members of the tech media, reviews submissions based on design, functionality, consumer appeal, engineering and how the products compare with competition.

Google Home Integration is available for all Ambi Climate devices, which are available on www.ambiclimate.com at $199.00 and in local retail stores.

2. TP-Link introduces new models in Kasa Smart Home Line

TP-Link, the leading manufacturer of connectivity solutions for companies and consumers, recently introduced six new models of smart cameras and smart bulbs in its Kasa Smart Line. Delivering a smart home experience that you want to achieve, the entire Kasa Smart portfolio works with Wi-Fi and is compatible with Amazon's Alexa and The Google Assistant, allowing devices to be controlled via voice commands.

The three models of intelligent security cameras include the Kasa KC120, KC100, and KC200. The first two models are designed for indoor use while the KC200 is the first wireless camera engineered for outdoor use and comes equipped with a rechargeable battery.

All three models record high-resolution 1080p video and incorporate two-way audio channels, allowing you to easily communicate with the person you see on the camera. In addition, they offer a 130º video angle and night vision, to keep your home safe—day or night. They also allow you to see live images on your Android or iOS smartphone through the free Kasa app and delimit the recording areas—to focus on specific places in the room, such as a window or a door. They instantly send alerts and images when sound or movement is detected and automatically store all recorded activity for three hours.

The TP-Link Kasa Cam KC120 ($99) and Kasa Cam Outdoor KC200 ($145) as well as the KL110 ($42), KL120 ($55), and KL130 ($65) are all available at authorised TP-Link resellers. The Kasa Cam KC100 ($75) will be available in June 2019. The products all come with a three-year product warranty. TP-Link is locally distributed by Ban Leong Technologies Pte Ltd.

3. Bose launches smart speaker and soundbars

Bose began the next chapter in its legendary home audio history with a new wireless smart speaker and two new smart soundbars: the Bose Home Speaker 500 for music, and the Bose Soundbar 700 and Soundbar 500 for music and home theatre.

Complete your smart home with these products that crush the limitations of spaciousness from a single enclosure, combining size-defying performance with superior voice pickup and the power of Amazon Alexa now, other voice assistants to follow, and AirPlay 2 for simple streaming from Apple devices added in early 2019.

While voice-controlled speakers aren’t new, the new Bose smart speaker and soundbars are engineered from the ground up and use the proprietary mic technology found in Bose headsets and headphones to hear commands better over louder listening levels. With Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Alexa built in, they deliver instant, easy access to millions of songs and tens of thousands of skills for information, entertainment, smart home control, and more. They work brilliantly alone or together as a multi-room system.

The Home Speaker 500 will retail for $599. The Soundbar 500 and 700 will retail for $799 and $1,199, respectively. All are sold at authorised Bose dealers.
